Information We've Learned & How It's Overloaded

The older we get as a person, the more information we learn, therefore, the more information we are trying to store and hopefully later recall.  But in today’s world of information, the information changes daily and by the time we learn one piece of information; it is replaced with five different types.  We never really forget the first piece of information that we learned, we just store it and learn more.
I am a gamer; my first video games were the arcade games, Super Mario Bros. and Centipede.  I grew up with them, for only a little while until my parents let me play their Atari game system.  In 1986 my parents bought a Nintendo Entertainment System, I was 6 and I played it every waking moment I was aloud too.  I learned how to play ever system that was introduced from Atari to the now PS3’s, Xbox 360’s, and Computer’s.  If ask to go back and play one of the older systems I can with very little trouble, while remembering all the games that I played when I was playing those systems.  This was my life of being a kid, and I loved every minute of it.
My mind is so overloaded with the information of playing those games and how to play them.  I can recall almost every piece of information of those games with disturbing accuracy.  But once you learn that information, your life is now ruled by it.  I think of how this situation would make a great game, or fantasize about being characters in the game and what I would do in that situation.  That is the result of holding so much information of a specific type in for so long.  My life is ruled by those games and the overload of that information does affect my life and while it is constantly trying to force itself out, I am using more brain function trying to keep it hidden from others grasps.
So while we learn more information, our information doesn’t leave it simply gets stored and stored until we get so much of it in us that we can’t tell the information apart and can’t keep it from ruling our lives.

  1. You mention that it takes a lot of brainpower to "keep it hidden from others." I'm curious about why you choose to hide this way of thinking? Is it because this type of thinking is perceived as disadvantageous? Are there certain situations where it might be an advantage to think in this manner?

  2. This is an interesting perspective to information overload. I guess this could be the case for many different types of inform that people learn and store for many years. I do agree that information we have learned does not necessarily leave us but is stored for quite some time.

  3. I agree with you but do you think its possible that we, as people are advancing along with the technology? Or do you think that we are just shoving important things out of our head to make room for all of this incoming information? I do not know what to think. I do know that with this expanding field of technology it might not be vital for humans to remember every little thing because we can be more reliant on technology but are we using it more as a crutch than a stepping stool?

  4. To Candice; I keep it hidden because most people can't think outside the box. Its also because most people who are gamer nerds don't go out and when they do you know it, they are the ones just talking about their games and look a bit out of place. That's not me; I enjoy going out and carrying on conversations that don't revolve around just playing games. But if you had a job where you invented video games or played them for a living (which I know people who do), then yes it would be okay to.
To Caleb; We are advancing with technology as people, but as a person we think that we have to do more than is humanly possible. I don't think that we ever push out information, we just store it until it is time to recall it. It is important to know information, but nobody can know everything. It is not that we need to know everything but the knowing of where to look to find the information is the better tool. It's like; I don't know but I know where to look.
